The expression “less is more” has never been more true. Women are taking it off, to turn it back on! Boudoir photography is hot, in more ways that one! And it’s not just those young, skinny 20-somethings, it’s women in mid-life and beyond who are giving their all, well, just about, to prove that age is irrelevant! Just ask 61-year-old Lynn Fleeger.

“People look at a woman over 60 and think she’s halfway dead, she’s got one foot in the grave and the best part of her life is over and that’s just not true anymore. It just isn’t.

Still, it’s something she never thought she’d do.

“I toyed with the idea for a while but I thought no, I’m not going to subject myself to that, but I came away feeling like, hey, you know what? I’m still desirable, I’m still sexy and it made me feel good!”

There ARE those who would say some things ARE better left to the young. But the proof is in the pictures!

“This makes you feel like you’re really a special person again,” says Fleeger. “Like you’re really something special. When she was showing me the shots she took I thought this can’t be me, but it was! Things that I felt so unnatural doing, she’d say act natural and I’d say, uh huh, I’ve got a cramp in this leg, but when I saw the pictures it was amazing. It was amazing!”

And oh, how times have changed, well, maybe a little. Fleeger says she understand very well that even a generation ago, 60 year old women never even think of doing this.

“Oh, never! Even now, I haven’t told anybody I did this. Nobody. Not my sister, nobody knows I did this. WHY? Because of the stigma attatched. What I will do, when I get the pictures, then I will tell them I did it and they’ll see, I can’t make people understand that boudoir photography is not pornography. The perception is out there that it’s going to be sleazy, campy and it’s just not.”

Kalysa Wilson of Ashira Photography was doing fine shooting weddings, but when she found boudoir photography, her future flashed before her eyes!

“I try to bring out the woman. It’s not about the background, it’s not about the set, it’s about showing sensuality and beauty around her. Because an arm can be sexy and elbow, a leg can be sexy. You don’t have to be a men’s magazine, because most women think of boudoirs or sexy photos as men’s magazines. No it’s totally the opposite.

I love it. I like making people feel good about themselves. Most of them come to me and say, oh, I don’t look good, I don’t take pictures well, and I’m like, hey, don’t worry about it! When I’m finished with you? You’ll be a supermodel.

I try to build their self esteem because I’ve been there. After my second child I was humungous, bigger than I am now so I can see in my head I know how women are feeling self conscious. You don’t want to go in the dressing room you don’t want to look at yourself in the mirror and to help build their confidence up even if it’s just like for a 30 minute to an hour session really makes a difference in a women’s life.”

Gail Lotze summoned her courage, and put her fears aside to commemorate a milestone.

“This is a big day for me, that’s for sure. I’ve never done anything like this. My husband and I are getting ready to celebrate our 30^th wedding anniversary so I was trying to think of some special way to celebrate, and I kind of thought maybe I can sort of immortalize myself and have a photo album prepared and give it to him for our wedding anniversary.”

She’s also a mom, in her 50s, who believes sensuality has nothing to do with age, something her finished photos would certainly tend to support!

“Well you’ve got to feel good about yourself. You have to enjoy your life and you don’t want to give up. I’ve got a lot of life left in me and people my age and older than me too. So if you feel good about yourself you can enjoy life a little bit better.”

And boudior photography is affordable. Packages usually begin in the 200-dollar range, and can include full makeup, and hair styling. Lingerie is often available for purchase. And the photos can be displayed in a variety of different ways. And, for the people who say you’d never catch me doing that? Lotze exclaimed, “Oh, don’t say that, don’t sell yourself short. Go ahead. If I can do it, you can do it!”

Wilson believes it simply reaffirms what should be crystal clear. “It reminds me that every woman needs to know that they’re beautiful. Every woman needs to know they’re sexy.”

And before you think YOUR wife, your mom or your grandmother would never do this, you should realize that’s EXACTLY who it is that’s choosing to step in front of the camera! Fleeger believes the possibilities are wide open for, “Anyone and everyone. Anyone who loves themselves and even for people who don’t like themselves because it will make them like themselves again! It will make them realize that they’re loveable, they’re sexy and they’re a beautiful person. You feel like a million bucks, you really do.”

How to transform your body in just 4 short weeks for your next shoot!

Fitness expert Josh Salzmann has put together an intensive four-week workout plan to help you look and feel your best. You will have to work pretty hard over the next few weeks, but bodies are quick to adapt to exercise. If you follow the program properly, after four weeks you should see a reduction in body fat and look more toned.
Each week, Josh introduces a new element of keeping fit, allowing you to build up an effective cross-training program. As he points out, looking good and feeling healthy in the long term involves following a healthy diet, drinking a lot of water and continuing to work out regularly. Although the next month is important, don’t just stop after the four-week plan is over – this program is a great way to help improve your fitness level and get your routine back on track.

Week 1
Your task: To burn fat
How: Through interval training
Your goal for this week: Three 30-minute interval training sessions.

Interval training is one of the best ways to burn fat. It involves changing the intensity or level at which you are exercising for a couple of minutes during your workout. For instance, during your 30-minute workout, try running (or walking) at your normal pace for three to five minutes, then run (or walk) at a faster pace for three to five minutes, and slow down to your normal pace again. If you’re working out on the step machine in the gym, step at a normal pace for three to five minutes, and then take the resistance up for three to five minutes, and so on. Build up the intervals, so with each high intensity burst you’re working harder than the one before.

By working hard for short periods of time and allowing yourself time to recover; you can push yourself harder than if you tried working at a high intensity for an extended period of time. In working yourself harder, you push your muscles, lungs and heart to their capacity, thereby improving your overall fitness level and, consequently, your body’s ability to burn fat.

Josh recommends doing your interval training sessions in the morning if possible, as this will kick-start your metabolism for the rest of the day and ensure you burn as many calories as possible. This is because by working out in the morning you raise your metabolism and keep it elevated throughout the day. However, if you work out in the evening and then go to sleep, your metabolism slows down, so you don’t benefit as much from the increase in your metabolic rate.

Week 2
Your task: To banish cellulite
How: Through deep stretching
Your goal for this week: Three 30-minute interval training sessions, followed by 15-minute deep stretch sessions.

Cellulite is like any other fat in your body, but the difference is in the way it’s stored. In women’s bodies, the connective tissue that runs between the layers of skin is tighter and closer together than in men’s bodies and, as a result, forms several bucket-shaped chambers. Fat is then stored in these chambers and, once they fill up; the fat protrudes over the top of the chamber, creating lumps and bumps that appear through the skin.

Marja Putkisto, author of The Method Putkisto has pioneered deep stretching to help eliminate cellulite. Her method actually alters the length of your muscles and the shape of the fat storing chambers, so that the fat is spread more widely across the tissues and is less likely to protrude over the top and produce dimply-looking cellulite.

So how does deep stretching work? Marja explains that it begins where a normal 30-second stretch ends. This kind of stretching involves lengthening the stretch for two to three minutes, using visualization and deep breathing. The idea is to start by taking the stretch to the point where you feel the muscles resist, then hold it, breathe and focus your mind on relaxing and lengthening the muscle. When the feeling of resistance stops, stretch further and do the same thing again until you feel you can’t go any further. The result is increased flexibility, longer muscles and cellulite-free skin.

You can start with the following lower body stretches, but don’t push yourself too hard. If any stretch feels extremely painful, stop immediately.

Hamstring stretch

Sit on the floor with one leg extended in front of you and the other bent so that your foot rests against the inner thigh of the extended leg. Bending from your waist, reach forward towards your toes with your hands, ultimately trying to press your stomach and your chest against your leg. You should feel the stretch along the back of the extended leg. Take hold of your shin or foot (however far you can reach) and keep stretching until you feel your muscles resist, then slowly push deeper into the stretch.
Gluteal stretch

Lie on the floor with both knees bent and your feet flat on the floor. Cross your right leg over your left knee so that your right ankle is resting on your left knee at a 90-degree angle. Reach forward and wrap your hands around your left thigh so that your hands clasp just under your knee. Lift your left leg so your foot lifts off the ground, and pull your left leg towards you. You should feel the stretch deep in your right buttock. Keep stretching until you feel your muscles resist, and then slowly push deeper into the stretch.
Inner thigh stretch

Sit on the ground and bring the soles of your feet together, letting your knees drop out to the sides. Then sit up straight, rest your elbows along your inner thighs and gently try to press your knees to the floor. You’ll feel the stretch along your inner thigh. Keep stretching until you feel your muscles resist, and then gently push deeper into the stretch.

Week 3
Your task: To tone and sculpt
How: Through strength training
Your goal for this week: Three 20 minute interval training sessions followed by 20 minutes of strength work. Finish off with 15 minutes of deep stretching.

So far, you’ve been burning fat and getting rid of cellulite, but if you want your body to have that super-sculpted look, you need to do some strength training. Aside from making you look more toned, strength work also speeds up weight loss. This is because muscles require more energy than fat to function. While fat is simply stored energy in your body and doesn’t require fuel to maintain itself, muscles are active so they need to be fueled in order to function. Even when they are not being used, muscles require fuel to recover from exertion. Consequently, the more muscle you have, the more fuel they need and the more calories you use, or burn.

It is important to do strength training or resistance exercises for your whole body. Start with your larger muscles and then do more specific exercises to target the smaller muscles as well. For instance, to tone the area around your buttocks and thighs, start with exercises such as squats and lunges that use all those muscles together. Then move on to exercises such as leg curls and leg raises that isolate smaller muscles.

Week 4
Your task: To combine the previous routines into a weekly plan
How: Through cross-training
Your goal for this week: Four to five workouts.
Cross-training refers to a program that involves combining strength work, aerobic work, stretching and relaxation. You’ll be using different muscles each day, which means you’ll be able to work out at an intense level without overstraining your body. It also means you’ll see quick results.

From this point on, you need to take all the exercises you have done for the past three weeks and alternate them so you do different workouts every day. Here’s a sample weekly plan:

Monday: Do your strength training and deep stretch workout
Tuesday: Do your interval training and stretch workout
Wednesday: Take a day off
Thursday: Go back to your strength training and deep stretch workout
Friday: Do your interval training workout

By the end of the four weeks, you will notice a change in the way you look as well as the way you feel!

There are many things that go into organizing a fun and successful soiree for yourself or you and your friends. It’s actually very easy and stress free! Just get together your best girlfriends and follow these simple steps.

PRE

1.) Choose the appropriate packages. Decide whether or not you would like food and drink provided or if you’d like to bring your own.

2.) Designate a hostess. The hostess will keep everyone together and make sure everything goes well.

3.) Know what you want. Make sure you are prepared and know what you want to wear and what makes you feel the sexiest.

Everyone Can Be Beautiful Boudoir Client

Successful boudoir photographers acknowledge that the usual age range for men or women who participate in boudoir photography is between 18 and 35 years old. Obviously, a young, beautiful client photographs better from all the usual angles with little intervention from the photographer. But not all of us fit into the preferred age range and, even if we do, our angles may be less than perfect. Mature or less than perfect clients are just as beautiful and want to feel sensual and desirable every bit as much as do those who are younger and more supple. Fortunately, today’s professional boudoir photographers utilize several subtle techniques that minimize imperfections and maximize the attributes.
Creating the Right Tone
Mature clients are usually not comfortable with the traditional ‘skin’ magazine poses. They prefer a classic but sensual look, one that focuses on the beauty of their natural lines. Before starting the shoot, a photographer must talk with their client to determine what look he/she is trying to create. Understanding what the client is willing to reveal and what needs to be avoided or minimized is paramount. Good boudoir photographers will observe their client closely before photographing him/her, looking for angels that will enhance beauty and create a feeling of sensuality, all of which will make him/her feel sexy and desirable.

Lighting
Every studio setup is different and a photographer might use mono lights, an on-camera flash or natural lighting, depending on the desired effect. One thing that must be avoided, however, is any type of harsh lighting. Harsh lighting tends to enhance the signs of ageing and, unless the photographer is a Photoshop expert, a softer light is a much better choice. Decreasing the power level of mono lights to ½ or even ¼ power ( if the light fixture will allow) is a good way to soften the lighting effect. Another is to use a soft box or an umbrella so that when the light flashes it has a softer glow. If a photographer uses an on-camera flash, using a soft box for the on-camera flash will produce a more even, soft light on the client.
Posing
Mature clients come in all shapes and sizes. If one has a thinner frame, it’s good to remember that the camera will add about ten pounds. Photographers will try to capture angles or pose the client in a way that will enhance beauty. For example, if there is a need to make the bust area appear larger on a slimmer female client, laying her on her stomach, bringing her arms closer together and propping her up on her elbows will create more cleavage. Photographing at a side angle helps create curves in the front and back, making her shape seem fuller and shapelier resulting in an hour glass look. Full figure mature clients can be challenging, but the photographer can avoid capturing the tummy area or extra love handles with a direct on-back shot. The natural spinal curvature is preserved while minimizing any bulges.
Clothing
Clothing should fit both the personality and the body type of the client. If the photographer is not providing the clothing, the topic must be discussed before the scheduled shoot. The photographer should make suggestions that will fit the session theme and enhance the client’s look. As the professional, a photographer should be honest but not rude, advising the client to bring more than is expected to be used during the photo session so he/she can help select items that will work best with his/her inherent physical qualities.
A photographer‘s talent will be enhanced, as will the beauty of the client, with the understanding that not all clients are of the same shape, size, age or disposition. A boudoir photographer’s goal is to capture their beauty and essence as an individual, helping them feel sexy, flirtatious, sensual and confident about their image. The result will be amazing!

Boudoir photography is a hot new wedding photography trend that involves surprising the groom with a sneak peek at your passionate side. You may have not heard of it but it involves the bride wearing a lot less than her wedding gown. Boudoir photos are usually taken wearing very little but are hardly X-rated. The sessions are tasteful photos that hint at sexiness. Every person has their own idea as to what sexy is and what they are comfortable with. These sessions are cute, fun, sexy, flirty and even a bit sensual all while maintain one’s comfort level. The pictures are classic pin-up inspired and are kept rather PG-13. A great deal of “boudoir” is now created in the photographer’s studio where it has become very fashionable to create a set of sensual images for ladies of all ages, shapes, and sizes in the “boudoir style.” Many brides like to have the best of their boudoir photos bound in a mini album just for their hubby.

Not only can you take these photos as a surprise gift for your husband to be, but girlfriend sessions are also available. You and three to four of your best girlfriends can get together and do your sessions at the same time. Arrange for someone to come do your hair and make-up, do your own, or even each others. Each of you will be photographed individually and be sure to have some food and drinks handy for a long but fun day. At the end when everyone is dressed up take a group shot to commemorate the session.

Lastly you may also be wondering, “What should I wear to a boudoir shoot?” The most important thing is to choose outfits that make you feel sexy. I recent read an article on Egala.com and here is an excerpt from it.

The average cost of wedding photography, and how much can you spend?
I would have to say that the average cost is $1000 dollars on the low end and average on the high end would be anywhere from $2400-$5000 for wedding photography. But keep in mind you get what you pay for. Wedding photography is just as special as your special day because it is capturing the moments of that day on film for you to have for a life time. Photographers set prices that tend to vary across the Country, depending on where you’re located.
Skimming: Well I would have to advise, NOT TO SKIM on your photography budget, because you truly get what you pay for. You may not get a photographer with professional grade equipment. (always ask what type of equipment they use, and if they have back up, just in case.)
Your photographs may not get professional edited. They may not know how to shoot a wedding from a point of telling a story, or what to capture that will make you as a bride and groom happy. What happens if your images are lost, because weddings cost so much , do you really want to run the risk of dealing with a photographer who is not licensed, and insured, with back up equipment, or even knows how to shoot a wedding. Please my advice would be not to skim on that area of your wedding.
DON’T SKIM!!!!
It works out for you and your groom, not to skim on wedding photography, if you really want to preserve the memories in an album or even just a CD of images you really want a photography to capture the moments that make it special for you. And a photographer that does it right the first time.
When thinking of hiring a photographer, you should consider some of the following:
Does their work stand out to me? Make an impression on the groom and I.
Do our personalities fit?
Does the photography have customer service skills? (Very important)
Speak with the photographer, either in person or over the phone, get to know them
View their work online.
Discuss your wedding day and the things that are most important to you. Go over the details.
Rates of the trade
Most photographers will provide you with their standard pricing, but always ask if a custom package can be written up for you, that applies to your wedding,. Custom packages are very common, and most if not ally photographers will be happy to draft one up for you.

Ashira Photography" Ashira Style" Approach to Wedding Photography

I have tried to give all my followers and readers a background to different styles of wedding photography, to lead up to how Ashira photography approches each wedding, and photo shoot. I have to say out of all the styles the "THIRD" style mentioned in the posting below would have to be the style that best describes our shooting style. Now that is not to say we dont mix in a little of all the other styles, because we do, we take a Fashion approach and use some traditional poses along with Photojournalistic style to make the sytle of our own called ASHIRA SYTLE...

Each wedding or photos shoot is different, so even though we apply the same princples to each shoot or wedding, we try and capture the couple personality in our style. Becasue we are telling the story of that couple, or family, or even indiviual.

A mixture of Styles defined

"There are two primary approaches to wedding photography that are recognized today: Traditional and Photojournalistic. Traditional wedding photography provides for more classically posed images and a great deal of photographer control and interaction on the day of the wedding. Photojournalistic wedding photography takes its cue from editorial reporting styles and focuses more on candid and unposed images with little photographer interaction. These are two extremes and many of today's photographers will fall somewhere in the middle of these two styles.

A third style that is becoming more popular is a fashion-based approach. In contemporary/fashion-based wedding photography, photojournalistic images of the events of the day are combined with posed images that are inspired by editorial fashion photography as would be found in magazines like Vogue or Vanity Fair.

A fourth style that is popular in Asian countries, especially in China, is wedding studio photography(Chinese: 婚纱摄影; pinyin: hūn shā shè yǐng). Typically, couples will select a studio in a similar manner as western couples select a wedding photographer. They will then make an appointment with the studio for either in-studio or location shoot, which is becoming popular in recent years, to do "glamour wedding shots". In attendance will be a hair stylist and make-up artist in addition to the photographer and the couple. The couple will go through many changes of clothing and backgrounds in a similar manner to the fashion based approach."

Wedding Photojournalism is an increasingly popular style of wedding photography today. Brides who choose photojournalists to capture their wedding day feel the traditional photography style is stale and old, they are looking for something new and different.

Photojournalism is a skill, not just the name of a style of photography. A wedding photojournalist is a photographer whose strength is in capturing the moments. Often a photographer using this style has experience in journalism - newspapers, magazines, etc. This style originated within the news media, and transferred to other areas of photography, such as weddings. Photojournalists capture images that tell a story.

The wedding photojournalist usually arrives well before the bride is dressed and stays until they take last photo of the bride and groom leaving the reception. The photographer unobtrusively captures each action of the day, this way the photographs are not posed or staged. Since the subjects are unaware the camera is there, events are captured in a pure, genuine state. True emotion is caught and revealed using this style of wedding photography. Usually, these photos are taken with black and white film which truly captures the 'storybook' effect of this style. The end result is a narrative collection of images that show actual emotions and experiences of the days events.

Choose a wedding photojournalist to document your wedding day if you want unique photographs designed to tell the story of your day. This style is right for you if you want candid and artistic photos, a loose and relaxed way of being photographed, with a photographer that lets the actions of the day happen instead of making them happen. Who will do the photo shoot? Some studios have several photographers and they may send an assistant instead of the person you talk to.

What is the level of experience the photographer has who will be doing your photo shoot? This may or may not be an indication of their quality of work. Some photographers are great with very little experience. Still, this is helpful information to know before making your selection.

Ask for referrals. Any reputable photographer will be glad to offer referrals. If there is any hesitation, this might not be the person you want to hire. If you are given referrals, be sure to call them and ask if they were pleased with the service.

Each photographer has a different style, just as an artist has a unique style. Ask to see photo albums of weddings the photographer has done photo shoots for. You may or may not like their style. Some photographers are more conservative in the way they do photo shoots and some are more trendy.

Inquire about cost. Is there a deposit required? Are there any extra fees? Ask about the price of individual photos and also packages. Prices may be set or some studios may allow you to customize a package. Make sure you understand the terms of the contract and get everything in writing before signing.

How long after your wedding should you expect to receive your proofs? After you get your proofs, how long will it take to receive your photos?

Discuss with the photographer what you have in mind for photos. Do you want photos taken before the wedding and at the reception? This should be made clear. Do you have any poses or scenery in mind? Does the photographer seem easy to communicate with and understand what you are aiming for?

Your wedding album will be a treasure and will tell a beautiful love story of when you said "I do". Keep searching until you find a photographer who you feel comfortable with and will provide you with the best photos possible"

Types
A wedding photographer should know what type of photographs the bride and groom want. There are traditional and journalistic photographs in color or black and white. Most couples prefer a combination. Some have a preference for the shots they want in close-up, in the distance, with special lighting or with a blurred background. The photographer should make a list of what the bride and groom prefers and memorize it before the ceremony.
Location Preview
The photographer should visit each location and take test shots to adjust lenses and light for every possible situation. The photographer should record settings so she can set her equipment accurately at the right moment. Locate places with good backgrounds and the right lighting as well as places that have little chance of having guests wander into the shot.
Time Table
Photographers should have a schedule of the day's events. Make sure the photographer has a copy of the time table for the ceremony and reception. If one of the events runs over, the photographer can make adjustments.
Family Structure
Family structure can be varied these days, and there are often family members who don't get along because of conceived past wrongs, divorce or other disagreements. Photographers should learn who family members are and their relationships with each other, good or bad. Take photographs of family groups by planning ahead of time which groups of people should be together and quickly adding and subtracting people from the group so that you have many different groups from which the bride and group can choose.
Special People
There will be people present who are very special to the bride and groom who may not be part of the wedding party or family. Make sure the photographers has a list of important guests so he can take candid photos of these guests relating to the bride and groom.
Vendor List
Make sure the photographer has a list of the other professionals who are taking part in the wedding. Everyone has a job to do, and the photographer can do a better job if there is cooperation with the minister, wedding planner, florist, caterer, musicians, DJ, videographer and decorators.
